SETTING UP JOURNAL ALERTS

Two types of Journal Alerts may be set up in the ProQuest and Academic Search Premier (Ebsco) journal databases.  One simply sends you a Table of Contents by email when the newest issue of your favorite journal becomes available.  The second regularly applies a search created by you to the whole journal database and emails you the results.

1.  Table of Contents Alerts

Go to the library home page   <http://library.centralia.edu/> and look under Find Information for the List of Our Magazines, Journals & Newspapers.

Searching for journal titles:

This can be done in multiple ways:

Find e-journals by title or ISSN   or
Browse e-journals by title           or

Browse e-journals by subject

Results List Example:

American theatre  (8750-3255)

from 01/01/1994 to present in ProQuest Research Library

from 01/01/1995 to present in Academic Search Premier

from 01/01/1997 to present in eLibrary

 Setting Up TOC Alerts:

Click on a ProQuest (various collections) or Academic Search Premier (Ebsco) link that looks current.  Ignore the others (eLibrary, etc.) The screen that appears will have a link to set up alerts on the right hand side.  Click and follow directions.  Ebsco requires setting up an account.

2.  Search Results Alerts

ProQuest: Search. If your search results list looks useful, click on the Set Up Alert   link on the right of the screen and follow directions.

Ebsco: Go to Advanced Search and search.  If your search results list looks useful, click on the Search History/Alerts tab, then Save Searches/Alerts tab, and follow directions.  Ebsco requires setting up an account.

Watch Out! Emails from ProQuest and Academic Search Premier (Ebsco) may appear in your Junk email folders.

Questions:
